Prandin Side Effects

Although most people have no problems when taking Prandin, side effects are possible, such as low blood sugar, upper respiratory infections, and back pain. These side effects are usually minor and easily treated by you or your healthcare provider. However, some side effects of Prandin should be reported to your healthcare provider, including fever, signs of an allergic reaction, and symptoms of high or low blood sugar.

An Introduction to Prandin Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Prandin^® (repaglinide). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can be easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Prandin

Prandin has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which the side effects reported by a group of people taking the drug are documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine.

As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group not taking the medicine.

Based on these studies, the most common Prandin side effects include:

Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) -- occurring in up to 31 percent of people (see Prandin and Blood Sugar)
Upper respiratory tract infections (similar to the common cold) -- in up to 16 percent
Headaches -- in up to 11 percent
Sinus infection or irritation -- in up to 6 percent
Back pain -- in up to 6 percent.

Other common side effects (occurring in 1 to 5 percent of people) include:

Bronchitis (infection of the main passageways to the lungs)
Nausea
Diarrhea
Constipation
Joint pain
Chest pain
Tooth problems.
