Pioglitazone and Metformin XRThe U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the prescription drug pioglitazone and metformin XR for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The medication, which comes in tablet form, is typically taken once a day with the evening meal. Many people find it effective for managing their diabetes; however, side effects are possible, such as signs of the common cold, nausea, and diarrhea.
