Drug Interactions With Pioglitazone and Metformin XR

If seizure medications, thyroid medications, calcium channel blockers, or other products are combined with pioglitazone and metformin XR, drug interactions may occur that could decrease the effectiveness of both medications and/or increase your risk of side effects. To prevent this, your healthcare provider may adjust your dosages or monitor you more closely.

An Overview of Pioglitazone and Metformin XR Interactions

 Pioglitazone and metformin XR (Actoplus Met® XR) can potentially react with several different medicines. Some of the drugs that can lead to interactions with pioglitazone and metformin XR include:
 
 
 
  • Cimetidine (Tagamet®)
  • Corticosteroids, such as:
     
    • Betamethasone (Celestone®)
    • Cortisone
    • Dexamethasone (Decadron®)
    • Fludrocortisone (Florinef®)
    • Hydrocortisone (Cortef®)
    • Methylprednisolone (Depo-Medrol®, Medrol®)
    • Prednisolone (Ovapred®, Pediapred®)
    • Prednisone
    • Triamcinolone (Kenalog®, Aristospan®)
