Drug Interactions With Pioglitazone and Metformin XR

Gemfibrozil
Combining pioglitazone and metformin XR with gemfibrozil can increase the level of pioglitazone and metformin XR in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. To prevent this drug interaction from occurring, your healthcare provider may need to decrease your dose of pioglitazone and metformin XR.
 
Isoniazid
Taking pioglitazone and metformin XR with isoniazid can make pioglitazone and metformin XR less effective, increasing your chance of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). You may need to be monitored more closely, and your healthcare provider may need to adjust your pioglitazone and metformin XR dose, especially when starting or stopping isoniazid.
 
Niacin
If pioglitazone and metformin XR and niacin are taken together, this makes pioglitazone and metformin XR less effective, increasing your chance of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). Oral Contraceptives
