Nausea or vomiting, weakness, diarrhea, and indigestion are some of the most commonly reported side effects of metformin (Glucophage®). Other, less common side effects that have been reported in 1 to 5 percent of people taking this medication include lightheadedness or dizziness, difficulty breathing, and increased sweating. While most metformin side effects are mild, some are potentially serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider immediately, including chest pain, shortness of breath, or blurry vision.
