Metformin (Glucophage®), a prescription medication, is used for treating type 2 diabetes. It can help reduce blood sugar levels by decreasing sugar production in the liver and limiting the amount of sugar absorbed into the body. Metformin comes in tablet and liquid form, and is generally taken one to three times daily (depending on the specific product). Before using it, talk to your healthcare provider if you have liver problems, low vitamin B12 levels, or any allergies.
