Metformin ER Storage Methods

Metformin ER should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture or heat. Metformin ER tablets should be kept in an airtight container.
 
Keep metformin ER and all medications out of the reach of children.
 

Metformin ER: What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose?

If you do not take your meformin ER as scheduled, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose of metformin ER.
 

Metformin ER Strengths

Metformin ER (Glucophage XR) is available in two strengths:
 
  • Metformin ER 500 mg tablets.
  • Metformin ER 750 mg tablets.
     
Fortamet (another brand of long-acting metformin) is available in the following strengths:
 
  • Fortamet 500 mg tablets
  • Fortamet 1000 mg tablets.
     
Glumetza (yet another brand of long-acting metformin) is available in the following strengths:
 
  • Glumetza 500 mg tablets
  • Glumetza 1000 mg tablets.
     

Generic Metformin ER

Both brand-name and generic metformin ER (Glucophage XR) are currently licensed for sale. However, generic versions of Fortamet and Glumetza are not licensed for sale at this time.
