Other Meds Like Metanx

Metanx® is used to help manage symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in people with diabetes. It may also be used in people who have high blood levels of homocysteine (hyperhomocysteinemia). Metanx is only available with a prescription and should only be used under medical supervision.
Metanx contains active forms of three vitamins: folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12. But are there other meds like Metanx available?
There are currently no products available that contain the exact same ingredients as Metanx. However, there are a few products that have similar active vitamins, such as Folast™, Foltx®, and Folbic™ tablets.
Some people may wonder about taking the individual vitamins found in Metanx separately. This would require taking multiple pills a day, instead of just one or two Metanx tablets, but could be less expensive, especially if Metanx is not covered by your insurance. However, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider to help you determine how much of the individual vitamins you need to take.
(For more details, click Generic Metanx. This eMedTV article further discusses why there are no generic versions of Metanx, and describes other products that may be similar to this prescription vitamin.)
