Metaglip Dosage

Metaglip Dosage for People Switching From Metformin or Glipizide

If you are switching to Metaglip from metformin or glipizide, the recommended starting dose is Metaglip 2.5 mg/500 mg, taken twice daily with meals or Metaglip 5 mg/500 mg, taken twice daily with meals. The starting Metaglip dosage should not be higher than the dose of metformin or glipizide you were previously taking. Your healthcare provider may slowly increase your dose, if necessary, up to a total of Metaglip 20 mg/2000 mg per day.

General Metaglip Dosage Information

Considerations for people taking Metaglip include the following:

  • It is best to try to take Metaglip with food in order to avoid stomach upset.

  • Metaglip should be taken at the same time(s) each day to maintain an even level of the medication in your blood.

  • If you do not take your Metaglip as scheduled, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your normal dosing. Do not take a double dose of Metaglip.

  • For Metaglip to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Metaglip will not work if you take it differently than how your healthcare provider recommends.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to Metaglip or your Metaglip dosage, talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Do not stop taking Metaglip without first discussing it with your healthcare provider.
