Before there was a generic glyburide, the drug was manufactured under the brand names DiaBeta, Glynase, and Micronase. The patents for these medications have since expired, and generic versions of Glynase and Micronase are now available. Generic glyburide (Micronase) is available in three strengths: 1.5 mg, 2.5 mg, and 5 mg. Micronized glyburide (Glynase) is available in four strengths: 1.5 mg, 3 mg, 4.5 mg, and 6 mg.
Generic Glyburide: An OverviewGlyburide (DiaBeta®, Glynase®, or Micronase®) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to treat type 2 diabetes. It is part of a group of diabetes medications called sulfonylureas. A sulfonylurea, such as glyburide, helps the pancreas to produce more insulin. It also helps the cells of the body respond better to insulin. This helps to lower blood sugar and keep it under better control.
