Diabetes Home > Janumet XR Medication Information

Janumet® XR (sitagliptin and metformin extended-release) is a medication licensed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is available by prescription only and comes as a tablet that is taken once a day.

In clinical studies, this combination product lowered HbA1c (hemoglobin A1c) levels and fasting blood sugar levels more than when each of the active ingredients in the drug was used alone. By controlling blood sugar levels, Janumet XR can help reduce the risk of developing long-term problems related to diabetes, such as heart, nerve, eye, or kidney problems.

While most people tolerate this medicine well, it is not suitable for some people. Before starting treatment with Janumet XR, your healthcare provider will need information on all other medications you are taking and will examine your medical history. People who have liver, heart, or kidney problems may not be able to safely use this drug.
