Diabetes Home > Humulin R Insulin Information

People with type 1 or type 2 diabetes may benefit from Humulin® R (regular insulin), a short-acting insulin used to help control the spike in blood sugar that occurs after meals. It is typically used in combination with a long-acting insulin.

Humulin R is available in the following strengths:

  • U-100 Humulin R (the standard form) -- 100 units of insulin per mL, available in 10 mL vials
  • U-500 Humulin R (the concentrated form) -- 500 units of insulin per mL, available in 20 mL vials.
  •
To help ensure a safe treatment process with Humulin R, your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history, including any other conditions you may have and if you are taking any other medications, including vitamins or supplements. This will help him or her decide if this type of insulin is right for you.

(Click Humulin R for more information on this form of insulin, including detailed instructions on how to use it.)
