Diabetes Home > Goji Berry Information

The goji plant contains edible berries and bark that are often used in traditional Chinese medicine. Dietary supplements, various health foods, and drinks containing goji berry are claimed to be beneficial for preventing and treating several medical conditions.

Both the bark and the berries from the goji plant contain:

• Betaine, a compound that can help lower homocysteine levels, which might lower the risk for heart disease, strokes, and blood clots.

Goji bark appears to help with:
• Fighting bacteria
• Lowering blood sugar.

Although many people do not have any problems while consuming this product, it is not suitable for everyone. For instance, people with diabetes, low blood pressure, or any chronic medical conditions should be informed about the benefits and risks associated with products containing goji berry or goji bark.
