Drug Interactions With Losartan
When certain medications are taken together, it may result in negative drug interactions. With losartan, an interaction can develop if the drug is taken with medicines such as potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Besides causing your body to metabolize the medicines differently than intended, drug interactions with losartan may also cause excessive levels of drugs in your body or extremely low blood pressure.
Losartan potassium (Cozaar®) can potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of these losartan interactions can include:
- ACE inhibitors, including:
- Benazepril (Lotensin®), benazepril-hydrochlorothiazide (Lotensin HCT®), or benazepril-amlodipine (Lotrel®)
- Captopril (Capoten®) or captopril-hydrochlorothiazide (Capozide®)
- Enalapril (Vasotec®), enalapril-hydrochlorothiazide (Vaseretic®), or enalapril-felodipine (Lexxel®)
- Fosinopril (Monopril®) or fosinopril-hydrochlorothiazide (Monopril-HCT®)
- Lisinopril (Prinivil®, Zestril®) or lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazide (Prinzide®, Zestoretic®)
- Quinapril (Accupril®) or quinapril-hydrochlorothiazide (Accuretic®, Quinaretic)
- Ramipril (Altace®)
- Diuretics, such as torsemide (Demadex®), furosemide (Lasix®), hydrochlorothiazide, and others
- Potassium supplements or salt substitutes with potassium
- Potassium-sparing diuretics, such as spironolactone (Aldactone®), triamterene (Dyrenium®), and amiloride (Midamor®), among others
- Rifampin (Rifadin®, Rimactane®, Rofact®)
- Lithium (Eskalith®, Lithane®, Lithonate®, Lithotabs®)
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen (Motrin®, Advil®), naproxen (Naprosyn®), naproxen sodium (Aleve®, Anaprox®, Naprelan®), diclofenac (Cataflam®, Voltaren®), indomethacin (Indocin®), nabumetone (Relafen®), oxaprozin (Daypro®), celecoxib (Celebrex®), meloxicam (Mobic®), etodolac (Lodine®), ketoprofen, ketorolac (Toradol®), and others
- Fluconazole (Diflucan®).
