Kombiglyze XR Drug Interactions

Kombiglyze XR Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially serious interactions that can occur when Kombiglyze XR is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Calcium Channel Blockers
Taking Kombiglyze XR with calcium channel blockers can make Kombiglyze XR less effective, increasing your chance of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). You may need to be monitored more closely, and your healthcare provider may need to adjust your Kombiglyze XR dosage, especially when starting or stopping a calcium channel blocker.

However, taking Kombiglyze XR with nifedipine, which is a calcium channel blocker, can also increase the level of metformin (one of the components of Kombiglyze) in your blood. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of Kombiglyze XR to prevent this drug interaction.

Certain Antibiotics or Antifungals
Some antibiotics and antifungals may increase the level of Kombiglyze XR in the bloodstream. As a result, a lower Kombiglyze XR dosage (2.5 mg /1000 mg once daily) is usually recommended for people in such situations. Check with your healthcare provider before combining Kombiglyze XR with such antibiotics or antifungals.

Certain Decongestants
Taking Kombiglyze XR with certain decongestants can make Kombiglyze XR less effective, increasing your chance of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). Decongestants are in many cough and cold products, so talk to your healthcare provider before taking any cough or cold products if you are taking Kombiglyze XR.

Certain Protease Inhibitors
Some protease inhibitors may increase the level of Kombiglyze XR in the bloodstream. In most cases, a lower dosage of Kombiglyze XR (2.5 mg/1000 mg daily) is recommended for use in combination with these protease inhibitors. Be sure to check with your healthcare provider before combining these drugs.
