Insulin Storage

Insulin Storage in Emergencies

The FDA states that insulin that has been stored in temperatures over 86 degrees Fahrenheit can be used in emergency situations. Insulin loses potency at high temperatures, but it does not appear to pose any dangers. You might have to use more insulin than usual in order to adequately control your blood sugar levels. However, do not increase your dose unless you can check your blood sugar levels and you know exactly how to adjust your dose. Going a few days with blood sugar a little higher than normal is certainly much better than having an episode of low blood sugar from taking too much insulin.
