The dose of insulin aspart protamine/insulin aspart (NovoLog^® Mix 70/30, NovoLog^® Mix 50/50) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

Your current dose of other insulins
How you respond to insulin aspart protamine/insulin aspart (especially as measured by your blood sugar levels)
The carbohydrate content of your meals
Other medications you are taking, including other diabetes medications
Other medical conditions you may have.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Insulin Aspart Protamine/Insulin Aspart Dosing Guidelines

There is no "standard" insulin aspart protamine/insulin aspart dose that will work for all people or even for the same person in all situations.

Insulin aspart protamine/insulin aspart is made up of two different insulins, an intermediate-acting form (insulin aspart protamine) and a rapid-acting (insulin aspart) form.

NovoLog Mix 70/30 is taken twice a day within 15 minutes before the morning and evening meals. Each dose is intended to cover two meals or a meal and a snack. NovoLog Mix 50/50 is taken within 15 minutes before each meal, up to three times a day.

You may be asked to measure your blood sugar before and after meals, and your healthcare provider may recommend carbohydrate counting. Both of these things can help you and your healthcare provider know how to dose your insulin aspart protamine/insulin aspart.
