Humulin 50/50 Side Effects

Serious Side Effects of Humulin 50/50

Some side effects with Humulin 50/50 are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. Some of the warning signs of these serious side effects include:

  • Symptoms of dangerously low blood sugar levels, such as:

    • Extreme hunger
    • Blurry vision
    • Dizziness
    • Shakiness
    • Changes in behavior, such as irritability or mood swings
    • Loss of coordination
    • Cold sweats
    • Difficulty speaking
    • Sweating
    • Confusion
    • Seizures
    • Unconsciousness

  • Symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), caused by prolonged high blood sugar levels if your dose is too low (this is actually a result of the disease itself, not really a side effect):

    • Increased thirst and urination
    • Nausea and vomiting
    • Labored breathing
    • Fruity, sweet-smelling breath
    • Fever
    • Confusion
    • Unconsciousness

  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:

    • Hives
    • Itching
    • An unexplained rash
    • Swelling of the mouth or throat
    • Wheezing or other difficulty breathing.

Make sure those around you (such as relatives, friends, and coworkers) know how to recognize your particular signs of low blood sugar, as you may be too confused or disoriented (due to low blood sugar levels) to recognize and adequately respond to your symptoms. Different people may have different signs of low blood sugar levels. Also, make sure you and those around you know exactly how to respond to low blood sugar levels.
