An Introduction to Humalog Mix50/50 Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Humalog® Mix50/50 (insulin lispro protamine/insulin lispro). However, not everyone who takes the drug will have problems. In fact, many people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, they are often minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Possible Side Effects With Humalog Mix50/50

Possible side effects of all
 insulins, including Humalog Mix50/50, include:

  • A skin reaction at the injection site
  • Skin thickening or pitting at the injection site
  • Low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia).

Rapid-acting insulins (such as the one in Humalog Mix50/50) are more likely to cause low blood sugar, compared to long-acting or even short-acting insulins. This is why it is so important to start eating within 15 minutes of a Humalog Mix50/50 dosage.
