Glucovance Side Effects: An Introduction
As with any medicine, there are possible side effects with
Glucovance® (
glyburide and metformin). However, not everyone who takes Glucovance will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate Glucovance well. When Glucovance side effects do occur, in most cases they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Glucovance Side Effects
Glucovance has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials.
In these studies, side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and compared to side effects occurring in another group of people not taking the medicine. Based on these studies, the most common side effects of Glucovance include:
- Low blood sugar -- up to 37.7 percent of people (see Glucovance and Hypoglycemia)
- Upper respiratory tract infections (similar to the common cold or flu) -- up to 17.3 percent of people
- Diarrhea -- up to 17 percent of people
- Nausea or vomiting -- up to 7.6 percent of people
- Abdominal pain (or stomach pain) -- up to 6.9 percent of people
- Dizziness -- up to 5.5 percent of people.
