Most people inject
glucagon subcutaneously (just under the skin). The skin of a buttock, arm, or thigh is typically recommended. When given this way, the maximum effects for increasing blood sugar typically occur in 30 to 45 minutes. If, after 15 minutes, the person has still not awakened, give another dose and seek immediate medical assistance.
Trained healthcare professionals can inject the medication into a vein or muscle. When given intravenously, the maximum effects for increasing blood sugar occur in 5 to 20 minutes. When given intramuscularly, the maximum effects for increasing blood sugar occur in about 30 minutes.
