Glucagon

What If I Take an Overdose?

Overdoses with this medication are usually not dangerous. People should not worry about overdoses when giving glucagon, since the consequences of untreated low blood sugar are much more serious than the effects of a possible overdose.

(Click Glucagon Overdose for more information.)

How Should Glucagon Be Stored?

Store glucagon kits at room temperature. Be sure to keep track of the expiration date and discard the product when it expires and get a new one. Once the dose is mixed together, it either must be used right away or discarded.

Available Strengths

Glucagon comes in one strength -- 1-mg vials. When mixed as directed, it produces a solution with a concentration of 1 mg per mL.

Can I Buy Generic Glucagon?

This medication is not available in generic form (see Generic Glucagon). Eli Lilly's Glucagon Emergency Kit is not a generic version of Novo Nordisk's GlucaGen HypoKit -- they are both "brand-name" products.
