Glipizide Effectiveness

Available by prescription only, glipizide (Glucotrol®) is a medicine used to lower blood sugar levels in people who cannot do so effectively through lifestyle changes alone, such as weight loss, diet, and exercise. It can either be used by itself or in combination with other medications.
Glipizide affects the body in a couple of ways. The medicine belongs to a class of drugs known as sulfonylureas, which means that it works by helping the pancreas produce more insulin. It may also help to lower blood sugar by improving insulin resistance, thereby helping the cells remove more sugar from the blood.
