Exubera and Blood Sugar (Cont.)

Exubera and High Blood Sugar

Even in people with well-controlled diabetes, high blood sugar levels are possible. For example, fever, infections, injury, or surgery can temporarily increase blood sugar levels, regardless of the diabetes medicine a person is taking. Contact your healthcare provider if you have a fever, infection, injury, or will be having surgery. Also, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately if you notice any possible symptoms of high blood sugar. These symptoms include, but are not limited to:

  • Increased hunger
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased urination
  • Blurred vision
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea or vomiting.

Exubera and Blood Sugar: Suggestions

Low and high blood sugar levels are possible problems when taking Exubera and can cause serious or even life-threatening complications. Prevention is the best treatment. Therefore, anyone taking the medication should know the possible signs and symptoms of high or low blood sugar and know what to do if these symptoms occur. Finally, it is important that people with diabetes know how to check their blood sugar levels and to check them often.
