Taking Charge of Your Diabetes

If you have diabetes, then you know how important it is to take charge of your health. But where do you start?

Many healthcare providers ask their patients with diabetes to take an active role in controlling the ABCs:

  • A1c (blood glucose average)
  • Blood pressure
  • Cholesterol.

You can do this in many ways, including:

  • Testing your blood glucose (blood sugar) on a daily basis
  • Following a meal plan that is designed for you
  • Being active every day
  • Taking your medicine as prescribed.

Ask your healthcare provider what your target numbers should be, and then talk about the best ways to reach them. By getting involved in setting goals and making a treatment plan, you are setting the stage for successfully managing your diabetes.
