Glumetza Information

Glumetza® (metformin hydrochloride extended-release) is a long-acting medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. Although other long-acting forms of metformin are available, Glumetza is not equivalent to these products. Glumetza is specially designed to release the medication in the stomach, not in the intestines -- this may help reduce diarrhea, gas, and other intestinal-related side effects. This medication comes in the form of a tablet and is typically taken once a day with the evening meal.

In order to determine if Glumetza is right for you, your healthcare provider needs information on your complete medical history and any other medicines you are taking -- including nonprescription products, vitamins, and supplements. This drug is not right for everyone, and it can react negatively with certain medications.
