The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved darbepoetin alfa (Aranesp®) for the treatment of anemia related to chemotherapy or chronic kidney failure. The medicine comes in injectable form and is given either subcutaneously or intravenously. It works by stimulating the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow.
