Actoplus Met Medication Information

Actoplus Met® (pioglitazone and metformin) is a combination diabetes medicine that has a few different effects on the body. The first active ingredient, pioglitazone, helps the body respond to natural insulin better. The second active ingredient, metformin, decreases the amount of sugar made by the liver, decreases the amount of dietary sugar the body absorbs, and makes insulin receptors more responsive.

People with type 2 diabetes who use Actoplus Met often find that they have better results on important tests used to provide information on long-term blood sugar control and the effects of this diabetes drug. As a result, they may have a reduced risk of experiencing long-term problems related to diabetes.

In order to determine if Actoplus Met is the right medication for you, your healthcare provider needs information on your complete medical history and any other medicines you are taking -- including nonprescription products, vitamins, and supplements. This drug is not right for everyone, and it can react negatively with certain medications.
