Dosing Information for DiaBeta
The dosage of DiaBeta that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- How well your diabetes is controlled
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you are currently taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
DiaBeta contains regular, unmicronized
glyburide.
Glynase® contains
micronized glyburide (glyburide that is made into very small particles that are better absorbed into the body). DiaBeta and Glynase are not interchangeable, and they are not available in the same strengths.
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with DiaBeta. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate DiaBeta quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
The most common DiaBeta side effects include:
- Stomach problems, such as nausea or heartburn
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
- Allergic skin reactions, including itching and hives.
