Infection With Cataract Surgery (Risks)
Despite the current sterile techniques used for all procedures and the use of antibiotics before, during and after cataract surgery, infections are a possibility following this procedure. However, based on the latest studies, the likelihood of this occurring is extremely rare.
The seriousness of the infection and the treatment options will vary depending on the location. Infections can range from very minor ones that only need to be treated with antibiotics, to a very major infection within the eye requiring surgery to treat it. Serious vision loss, including loss of the eye, is also a possibility with a major infection.
