Byetta Drug Interactions (Cont.)

Oral Contraceptives
Byetta can slow the movement of medications through the digestive tract, and this may make some oral contraceptives (birth control pills) less effective. To avoid this problem, take your birth control pill at least one hour before a Byetta injection.

Warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven)
In clinical studies, Byetta did not have an effect on the INR (a test used to measure how well blood clots) in people taking warfarin, indicating that warfarin does not interact with Byetta. However, there have been a few reports of Byetta causing an increased INR (and sometimes bleeding) in people taking warfarin. Your heatlhcare provider may want to monitor your INR more frequently when starting or stopping Byetta.
