By increasing insulin production in response to meals and decreasing the amount of sugar produced by the liver, Byetta® (exenatide) can lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Byetta comes in an injection form that should be taken twice daily under the skin of the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm. Prior to taking Byetta, be sure to tell your healthcare provider if you have kidney problems or any allergies. As with any medication, there are potential side effects of Byetta, including nausea, dizziness, and diarrhea.
