Byetta® (exenatide) is a prescription drug approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It works by decreasing the amount of glucose that the liver produces and increasing insulin production in response to meals. The medication, which comes in injection form, can be used alone or in combination with certain oral diabetes medicines. Potential side effects of Byetta include vomiting, headaches, and low blood sugar. Before using Byetta, talk to your healthcare provider if you have kidney problems, diabetic gastroparesis, or other digestive tract conditions.
