Bydureon Dosage

The recommended dosage of Bydureon for the treatment of type 2 diabetes is 2 mg injected just under the skin (subcutaneously) once every seven days. This dose is the same for everyone, regardless of age or weight. The medication comes as a dry powder and a separate liquid, which you will have to mix immediately before use.

An Introduction to Dosing With Bydureon

There is only one standard dose of Bydureon™ (extended-release exenatide), regardless of your age, weight, or severity of your diabetes. As is always the case, do not adjust your Bydureon dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

What Is the Recommended Bydureon Dosage?

The recommended Bydureon dose for treating type 2 diabetes is 2 mg injected just under the skin (subcutaneously) once every seven days.
If you miss a dosage of Bydureon and it is at least three days until your next scheduled dose, simply take the missed dose as soon as you remember and then continue with your usual schedule. However, if it is one or two days until your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your usual schedule.
If at any time you want to change your dosage days, you may do so, as long as there has been at least three days since the previous dose.

General Information on Using Bydureon

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Bydureon include the following:
  • It is best to inject Bydureon into areas of the skin that have a layer of fat underneath. This includes the thigh, the upper arm, or stomach (away from the navel). Try to rotate the injection sites; do not inject in the same place twice in a row.
  • This medication comes as a dry powder and a separate liquid; you will need to mix each dose just before use. Follow the directions closely, and wait to mix it until immediately before use.
  • This medication comes in a kit with everything you need to mix and inject the dose. Two needles are provided, but only one is necessary (the other is a backup). Do not use any other needles or other components that did not come with the kit.
  • Make sure your healthcare provider teaches you exactly how to inject Bydureon. This includes:
    • How to prepare the skin
    • How to prepare and mix the injection
    • How to inject the medication
    • What to do with your used needles (this may vary, depending on the local laws and regulations).
If you are not comfortable with any part of the process, please let your healthcare provider know.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage or Bydureon dosing in general, please talk with your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
