High Blood Sugar and Actos

Even in people with well-controlled diabetes, high blood sugar is possible. For example, fever, infections, injury, or surgery can temporarily increase blood sugar levels in people with diabetes, regardless of the medicine they are on. In these situations, Actos may not be enough to treat your diabetes, and the use of insulin may be required. Contact your healthcare provider if you have a fever, infection, injury, or will be having surgery. Also, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately if you notice any possible high blood sugar symptoms. These include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Increased hunger
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased urination
  • Blurred vision
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea or vomiting.

 

Actos and Managing Blood Sugar

Low and high blood sugar levels are known problems in some people taking Actos and can cause serious or even life-threatening complications. Prevention is the best treatment. Therefore, anyone taking Actos should be aware that low blood sugar or high blood sugar levels are possibilities. They should know the possible signs and symptoms of high blood sugar or low blood sugar and know what to do if these symptoms occur. Finally, it is important that patients know how to check their blood sugar levels.
