Actoplus Met Dosage
When switching from metformin to Actoplus Met, dosage recommendations typically start at 15 mg/500 mg or 15 mg/850 mg once or twice a day. The recommended dosage when switching from pioglitazone is 15 mg/500 mg twice a day or 15 mg/850 once a day. To maintain an even level of the medicine in your blood, take your Actoplus Met dosage at the same time each day.
Actoplus Met® (pioglitazone and metformin) is a combination of two different diabetes medications: pioglitazone hydrochloride (Actos®) and metformin hydrochloride (Fortamet®, Glucophage®, Glucophage XR®, Glumetza®, or Riomet®). The dose of Actoplus Met that your healthcare provider prescribes will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- How well your diabetes is controlled
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you are currently taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your Actoplus Met dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
If you are switching to Actoplus Met from metformin (Fortamet, Glucophage, Glucophage XR, Glumetza, or Riomet), the recommended starting dose is Actoplus Met 15 mg/500 mg or Actoplus Met 15 mg/850 mg, taken either once or twice a day, depending on how much metformin you were previously taking. If necessary, your healthcare provider may slowly increase your Actoplus Met dose up to 45 mg/2550 mg total per day.
If you are switching to Actoplus Met from pioglitazone (Actos), the recommended starting dose is Actoplus Met 15 mg/500 mg twice a day or Actoplus Met 15 mg/850 mg once a day. If necessary, your healthcare provider may gradually increase your dose up to Actoplus Met 45 mg/2550 mg total per day. Slowly increasing the dose can help to prevent stomach upset from the metformin component of Actoplus Met.
