Actoplus Met Alternatives
If you do not benefit from Actoplus Met, alternatives to the medication may include certain lifestyle changes, injectable diabetes medicines, or other oral diabetes drugs. Common injectable medications include insulin, incretin mimetics, and amylin analogues. Other oral diabetes medicines include thiazolidinediones, sulfonylureas, and other combination drugs.
Actoplus Met® (pioglitazone and metformin) is a prescription medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. For most people with diabetes, the drug is effective in treating the condition, and most people tolerate it well. However, as with all medicines, side effects can occur or the medicine may not completely control the diabetes.
Fortunately, several Actoplus Met alternatives are available for type 2 diabetes. Some of these alternatives include:
- Lifestyle changes
- Other oral diabetes medications (see Diabetes Medication)
- Insulin and other injectable diabetes medications.
Many lifestyle changes have been shown to be very effective in controlling type 2 diabetes (especially early type 2 diabetes). These lifestyle changes include:
- Weight loss
- Becoming more physically active (see Diabetes and Exercise)
- Changes in diet (see Diabetic Diet).
In fact, these changes are important for all people with type 2 diabetes, including people taking diabetes medications.
For some people, however, lifestyle changes alone may not be enough to adequately control type 2 diabetes. In this case, medications (including oral and injectable medications) may be necessary.
